Tonsils go away: Many people's tonsils "disappear" as they get older. They are technically still there, and if you get a cold virus, they may swell a little. But, there is no need to worry. Sometimes food gets stuck in the crevices, which can lead to "tonsil stones" if you don't flush them out regularly (by gargling for example). But the empty spaces aren't a cause for concern at all!
