My uncle bit his tongue and there is now a large red line going from the tip down the tongue. is it infected?

Possibly: If the tongue is swollen or extremely tender, or if he is having trouble speaking, swallowing or bleeding would be concerning. If there is just a line and no other problems (aside from a little pain), and the tongue is not split into 2 pieces, less reason to worry. Tongue infections are very rare, but can be life threatening if there is severe swelling or breathing is affected.
