HSV not shingles?: If your apparent shingles involves the genital area or nearby, it is likely you have primary genital herpes instead. Shingles is rare at age 18 but herpes is common; the rash is very similar for both; genital HSV can cause UTI symptoms; and it can cause temporary bladder weakness or paralysis that interferes with urination. The rash should tested for HSV. Recheck with your doctor ASAP. Good luck!
