Yes, you can: Was your diagnosis a result of particular complain of pain or incidental finding? If it's just a small hernia you can probably go about your normal activities without limitations for now. I would strongly recommend to be evaluated by the surgeon and have it repaired sooner when it's still small and you are healthy rather then wait until it's bigger and you are older and possibly less healthy.

Strange advice: Should not interfere with your sports on the short run But, should have it repaired ASAP to avoid incarceration
