Near Implants OK: Perfectly safe and non-toxic. Ultrasonic cleaning has been used for many years to remove debris and calculus. Scaling with hand instruments can also be used. On the implants, a plastic scaler is recommended to prevents scratching of any polished metal surface.

It is not safe: Hand scalers for cleaning dental implants should be made of plastic, teflon, or wood. An ultrasonic cleaning instrument can not be used preventing any abrasion on a titanium implant.
