Exam needed: A physician would have to examine your neck and palpate the lump in order to make a diagnosis. The neck stiffness may or may not be related. Occasionally soft tissue accumulates at the base of the neck causing a "dowager's hump" which can be seen in certain endocrine disorders like Cushing's syndrome or corticosteroid use
