Unlikely ever: Ketamine is not a particularly good drug for depression and has very strong effects that make normal functioning almost impossible. It is doubtful it will ever be approved as indicated for the treatment of depression.

Still in progress: Research studies are ongoing for use of IV ketamine infusions in treatment-resistant depression, such as: http://www.Clinicaltrials.Gov/show/nct00088699 which is not complete until april 2014. Some are ongoing through 2017. These are all done in highly specialized clinics, and does not equate to recreational use of ketamine. Limiting factor is that so far, infusion results only last a few days.

Good Chance: Ketamine is currently being studied in clinical trials, and there have been some promising results. The clinical approval process takes quite a bit of time, and ketamine will be looked closely to try to be as clear as possible regarding possible risks.
