My dad has stabbing pain in his rt hip joint with shooting pain along the side of the thigh till his knee he did an x-ray on the joint (normal )?

Maybe pinched nerve: Hip disease can give you leg pain but usually in top of thigh. Pain down the side of thigh could be pinched L5 nerve. An MRI of Lumbar Spine is the best image to see pinched nerve and a Spine Surgeon is the best physician to rule this out.
