Regardless...: ...Of one's pov about its propriety or ethics, it's here to stay. In the early 1990's, eli lily assigned its crack team of medicinal chemists--the ones responsible for developing prozac--to search for a cognitive enhancer: it would raise iq in patients with dementia. One could easily see that such a drug would likely raise iq regardless of where it started, hence changing normal to supernormal.

Huge topic: I've never thought of cosmetic psychopharmacology . But when thinking of the topic i think of the dangers of over treatment and the trap of dissatisfaction . Two big areas are weight loss and acne that come to mind. You need to stress picking patients with the right mindset and appropriate and realistic expectations . Good luck! i'd like to hear your talk!

Cosmetic?: Performance-enhancing or "optimizing" psychopharm stretches the doctor-patient relationship in new ways. Traditionally, doctors prevent and treat disease. Performance enhancement, whether by drugs, exercise, or other means, mostly lies outside the physician's purview. As the public increasingly sees meds as lifestyle options, perhaps we should revisit the line between prescriptions vs OTC.
