A member asked:

Dr could only get scant sample of endometrial lining for biopsy. had problem getting through cervix because curved. extremely painful. is this common?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Cervical stenosis: It is very common for the gynecologist to have difficulty inserting a biopsy instrument through the cervix when a patient is in menopause. This is called cervical stenosis. If the doctor could get the instrument into the uterine cavity and only retrieved scant tissue, that would imply that the lining of the uterus is atrophic or thin. If there is any question, you should have an ultrasound.
