No risk, no worries: Herpes is rarely if ever transmitted by hand-genital contact. In my 40 years in the STD business, I've never seen a patient with genital herpes that was acquired other than by intercourse or direct oral-genital contact. Not enough virus is carried over by fingering or other hand-genital contact. Even with a partner known to have genital herpes, this is nothing to be worried about.
