Complex: Total IgE level has minimal correlation to the severity of the allergic diseases except for atopic dermatitis . Specific IgE level correlates to the allergic state (higher level->positive challenge) but not necessarily the severity . Allergic symptoms are from a combination of the degree of allergic sensitivity, the type of allergens involved, and one's biologic response to the allergic reactions.
