Unfortunately yes: B"sd no it is a sugar, just like sucrose or table sugar. In fact some evidence suggest that it might lead to fatty liver and metabolic abnormalities - especially in the usual dietary form as high fructose corn syrup - which is used in many products as a cheap substitute for regular sugar - which in excess is not good for you either
