Watch closely: During the first few days of any illness, most babies show low energy, decreased appetite and grouchy or clingy behavior. If your baby does not seem to feel better when fever is down, or if he/she seems very ill, call your doctor. Otherwise, continue pushing fluids, treating fever and allowing him to lay low.

Fever unknown origin: Any infant who doesn't eat regularly has to be seen by a doctor to rule out the possibility of an ear infection, especially if the infant is grouchy. Children are different from adults because infection spreads systematically. That's why they have to be seen.
