What is the purpose of alternating advil and tylenol (acetaminophen) to reduce a fever ?

Not specific.: No purpose, both have antipyretic properties, both may reduce your fever. Some prefer tylenol, (acetaminophen) others prefer advil. Both have side effects if taken high doses and frequently. For short term basis is ok until seen by your doctor to find out cause of fever , if it persists.
