How can you tell if tmj pain is a slipped disc or muscular?

See dentist: Urge you to see a dentist and clarify if your symptoms are due to TMJ dysfnctn, which often responds to a dental splint. Disc and muscular problems would present differently and can easily be sorted out.

Evaluation: See a TMJ expert for evaluation. See a TMJ-orofacial pain expert to help evaluate and treat your problem. A TMJ-oro-facial pain expert can be general dentist, an oral surgeon, prosthodontist, orofacial pain specialist. Ask your physician, dentist or dental society for a recommendation.
