Emphysema: Hyperaeration means that the lungs appear more radiolucent on chest x-ray and over expanded. This is due to enlargement of the airspaces caused by destruction of the walls of the alveoli(air sacs). This finding is seen in Emphysema, a form of Chronic Obstructive Lung Disease.
