What do doctors mean when they say both lungs are hyperaerated?

Hyper aerated...: this usually refers to lungs that have more air in them, typically noted on a chest x-ray. If there is airway obstruction, it becomes difficult to exhale so the lungs have more air in them and appear big and black on a chest x-ray. This is a finding common during an asthma exacerbation or a COPD patient.
