I do not suffer with asthma(i don't think!) i find it hard to breathe what could this be? and painful burning when i cough and a tickle in my chest?

Bronchitis: The fact you have the burning /tingling in your chest is suggestive that you have an irritation of your bronchial tubes from either an infection, allergic, or chemical irritant This can cause you to have coughing, wheezing as well as shortness of breath. Since shortness of breath is involved you should see a physician for treatment. Cough medicine and an inhaler or perhaps antibiotics would help.
