German studies of grapefruit seed extract, have shown 5 out of 6 products to be adulterated with benzethonium chloride, a synthetic antimicrobial often used in cosmetics, as well as the preservatives triclosan and methylparaben. Topical use on nail fungus, etc may be okay, but don't use internally.
