Post op extraction: First, it's always best to ask and listen to the doctor who actually treated you. Having said that, drinking soda at this time should not affect healing. However, there are healthier alternatives to soda, and smoking can still delay healing and pose other serious health risks, extraction or not. If you smoke try to stop and at least get soft tissue examinations at your dentist every six months.

Wait 7 days: Ideally, its better to keep away from smoking as much as you can. Smoking is enormously harmful to your health. Ask your doctor for help.

Post extraction: Soda should be OK, but check with your Oral Surgeon, the doctor that knows your personal situation best. As to smoking, don't ask any health care professional for permission to smoke, ever. Smoking will eventually kill you, and it will probably be a horrible death. Ask your Physician for a litany of all the health problems caused by smoking. You haven't smoke for 5 days...make it 6, then 7....
