Soon: After the local anesthesia wears off i recommend non-diet sodas: the carbonation settles the stomach, and the sugar gives you some energy. No straws! the suction or negative intra-oral pressure can cause bleeding.

How soon?: If you have been prescribed medications, please consult with your oral surgeon or the pharmacist about the meds you are taking. It is not a good idea to mix drugs and alcohol.

Time to quit!: Now would be a great time to quit drinking soda. The high sugar content in regular soda is very destructive to the teeth. And diet soda contains acids that are caustic to dental enamel. Lastly, whatever you drink, don't use a straw, which can dislodge the blood clot that forms to start the healing process.
