A member asked:

I just started cymbalta (duloxetine) today at 30mg. should i taper onto in slowly, like every other day at first? i read that tapering off of it is important so i was wondering if slowly starting it is equally important.

Not good idea: Not a good idea. We sometime recommend tapering off when drug has to be discontinued with certain drugs. But with most drugs Like Cymbalta (duloxetine) we start with a dose and if full benefit not reached we increase the dose gradually . You should take the pills as has been directed by your prescribing Physician.Do not start tapering and take as prescribed. And follow up with your Doctors

Take as directed: You should take your Cymbalta (duloxetine) as your physician directed you to take it please. Taking 30 mg per day is considered a starting dose, which is usually increased to 20mg twice daily, and then to 60 mg once a day or in 30mg divided doses. Good luck.
