Is it true that once you get 3 concussions you can't play any sports?

A concussion: is a type of brain injury. It's the most minor form. Technically, a concussion is a short loss of normal brain function in response to a head injury. Return to play recommendations have been recently been made stricter. The Return to Play Progression process is best conducted through a team approach and by a health professional who knows the athlete’s physical abilities and endurance.

Can be variable: There is no hard and fast number, as 3 would disqualify numerous professional athletes. Best approach is to suspend competition for 4-6 weeks after significant head injury, and thoroughly evaluate subsequent events to assess need to curtail the sport. A neurologist or neurosurgeon should be consulted, and neuropsych testing can guide advice.

CONCUSSION RULES: The "three concussion rule" is something that has some Scientific basis, and in general, many competitive sports organizations that have head injury procedures use this or something similar as a guide. You need to check with the organization that oversees your particular sports activity for their specific guidelines

3 concussions: does not automatically disqualify you from playing sports. However depending on the sports you want to play you should be counseled on any possible risk for further concussion. This is a conversation to have with a sports medicine physician.
