Yup, normal: Pepto Bismol (bismuth subsalicylate) colors stool very dark, often nearly black. The other main cause of black stools is blood in the GI tract, but bleeding is rare with garden variety viral gastroenteritis. No worries as long as your symptoms continue to clear up and normal color returns over the next few days.
