Might help: Arnica is a homeopathic extract which has some value for the relief of mild pain. If it helps, by all means take it. A better and more lasting relief will come from your TMJ specialist adjusting or replacing your appliance. (S)he may also prescribe a stronger pain reliever.

TMJ: TMJ is usually caused by bruxism (chronic teeth grinding and/or clenching) or a bad bite. Effective treatment depends on how (grinding, clenching, or both), and when (nighttime, daytime, or both) you are bruxing, plus the condition of your bite. Pain will subside by elimination of trauma to the TMJ. See a dentist experienced in treating TMJ dysfunction (nightguard is only one aspect of treatment).
