Pots: Something does not sound right if she is hospitalized 5 days a month. Please have some friends tell you about their doctors and decide which one would be best for her and the family.

Disability: Disability determination is based on a clinician's evaluation of a patient's impairments, how impairments affect functioning, and the prognosis for improvement. Disability is determined by the policies of the agency (eg, insurance company, employer, government) and is not standardized. Disability may be less relevant for a school age child.

Needing insurance?: We don't want kids to be "disabled" but to find what they can do and build hobbies or eventually a career based on what they CAN do. Parents can ask the county for help. Here in my local area, the county program helps in several ways, and there is even some money for respite care for some families (so caretakers can take breaks). One might try applying for Medicare if insurance help is needed.
