Was prescribed amoxicillin 500 mg every 6 hours for tooth infection. is that normal? it sounds like too much. safe?

Normal: It's normal. DO NOT take antibiotic in any way other than as prescribed, and be sure to take the entire course of the medication; don't stop just because you start to feel better. Know also that the tooth must be physicially treated to eliminate the infection. Pills alone will not cure, only control, the infection for only as long as you take the medication.

Amoxil (amoxicillin) dose: take it 3 times a day not 4, a little excessive for sure

500 mg every 8 hours: Amoxicillin is the drug of choice for dental infection and works longer than penicillin VK and ampicillin. The typical adult dose 500 mg every 8 hours or 3 times /day for 7 to 10 days.
