A member asked:

When i have episodes of pain in my gums (as noticed when i floss), should i make an urgent appointment to get deep root scaling or a cleaning?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Need diagnosis: The decision to get deep scaling can only be made after a thorough periodontal exam. It may be indicated but you may just have gingivitis which can be painful while not requiring deep cleaning. It sounds like some kind of cleaning is required asap so see your dentist for an exam before jumping to treatment decisions. In the meantime brush and floss carefully. It will help even if it hurts at first
