You should repeat: tests after fasting for 8 hours. If it is still elevated, you need treatment, by lifestyle changes or meds. Causes of elevated cholesterol include genetic disposition, so even if you do not have any bad habits, your lipids can become elevated.

Why non-fasting??: Results of cholesterol and triglycerides are not meaningful in the non-fasting state. Repeat them after a 14 hour fast and then see what you get. Many people are genetically pre-disposed to hyperlipidemias, and if your results remain abnormal in a fasting sample, you should see an endocrinologist to discuss management further.

Fasting or not?: It is surprising to me that several physicians have jumped on the "nonfasting" part of this question and indicated that nothing could be concluded without a fasting test. A number of studies have indicated that nonfasting lipid results are quite valid for screening and predicting atherosclerotic risk. http://www.medpagetoday.com/Cardiology/Prevention/46739

Check it fasting.: The first thing to do would be to check these values after an overnight fast. Your triglycerides could have been elevated just because you had eaten. Check them again fasting and then you'll see what the real numbers are.
