A member asked:

5yo w/ fever 103.5 + severe headache. no stiff neck, no rash, no vomiting. sent to er by ped, no lumbar puncture done. 2nd opinion about meningitis?

See answer: Fevers are known to be accompanied with headaches and other symptoms like abdominal pain etc. the fact that child has been examined and has no symptoms to suggest meningitis ( no neck rigidity, no vomiting, no rash ) should put you at ease. Another important fact that can reassure is the sensorium - if child is responding well and sensorium is not altered. If worse in 12-24 hours go back to ER.
