Normal: Older people have more conspicuous ridges. Horizontal ridges result from injury to cuticles. This occurs from manicures. biting, picking, accidents.

Vertical nail ridges: Are often caused by aging. Other causes include anemia, splinter hemorrhages, or conditions like rheumatoid arthritis, trachyonchia or peripheral vascular disease.
