You will need to see: a health care provider in order to determine if there is more of a problem present than just the toe. Do you have diabetes? Is the bone infected? Is it bacterial or fungal infection? You should see a health care provider as soon as possible to get this checked out.

Ingrown or Not.: A 17 year old with an infected toe, more than likely means that the infection is secondary to an ingrown toenail. The nail can be treated by either trimming a piece off the nail, removing a nail border, and permanently destruction of the nail root. If the nail is not involved, then the toe is cultured, cleaned and proper antibiotics given. Soaking in various solutions can help.
