Common: There is probably a small phlebitis (clot) at the site of the IV tip & some inflammation of the vein wall. It can also be local irritation from some meds given through the IV. Since these are small veins they are usually of little concern. Warm compresses and aspirin help. If it does not get better and go away in a few days, the pain worsens, redness or fever develop seek medical attention.

Surface clot: The vein where the IV was has a surface clot that should resolve over time on its own. No worries for now. Sorry for your trouble.
