Rectal bleeding on/off 8 years. polyp found in 08, told not to worry. past 2 weeks bleeding each bm, 2-3xper day. cholecystectomy in july. sharp stabbing upper stomach pains. gp confirmed ext. hem. no bleeding on exam. waiting a long time for gi appt?

Need GI: Sounds like two problems: Upper GI and Lower GI. Bleeding in your age range is usually hemorrhoidal disease (as your GP stated). Upper GI could be gastritis related or a complication of your surgery. You likely need eval with upper and lower endoscopy by GI and possible follow up w surgery. Rectal bleeding : Ignore your Ob Doctor. Continued Rectal bleeding on and off warrants another colonoscopy especially to evaluate the previous polyp you had.
