Doubt it was cancer: It would be very unusual for a squamous cell carcinoma to clear up without treatment, and "I think" suggests it was not professionally diagnosed. Therefore, my guess is it wasn't cancer. In any case, SCC of the skin rarely metastasizes, i.e. almost never spreads elsewhere in the body. Also atypical location for an HPV related lesion, but that probably doesn't matter one way or the other.
