Add therapy: Chronic antenatal anxiety causes prolonged fetal exposure to high cortisol levels, which, along with other factors, alters fetal reactivity to stress & increases its risk of persistent emotional & behavioral problems. Your OB felt the risk of Citalopram was less than that of anxiety. Seek referral to a psychologist for Cognitive Behavioral Therapy & to a psychiatrist for medication management.
