Be careful: Antibiotics should only be given by a doctor for a particular person. I'm glad your brother is feeling better. The majority of infections are viral so it's possible he would get better without the medicine. Clarith 125mg twice daily for 7-10 days is reasonable for bacterial pneumonia. Clarith is not approved in the US for pediatric pneumonia but it does work. Kid dose is by weight 7.5mg/kg.

Yes, it is dangerous: to give a child any medications that are not prescribed by or under the direction of a physician. The majority of respiratory illnesses in children are viral & do not respond to antibiotics, whose over-use promotes development of antibiotic - resistant strains of bacteria. When indicated, the dose of Clarithromycin for children is 7.5 mg/kg/day divided into 2 doses for 7-10 days.

Mgt: If he is having trouble breathing he should see a physician right away. Most viral illnesses improve over the course of one week. Please keep your brother well hydrated and monitor his temperature.

Odd pattern: If your brother got better immediately, it wasn't the med you gave him. It takes 2-4 days for that med to make any significant difference in most infections, including this kind. What you did was expose him to a med he obviously didn't need, but assumed worked a miracle. You are lucky he didn't have an allergic reaction to the med and end up hospitalized.
