Is a magnesium pill (250mg) effective to relieve constipation (in addition to fiber, plenty of water)?

No: Magnesium citrate solution (a liquid) can help with constipation in the same way that Miralax (polyethylene glycol) does. A magnesium pill though will not be as effective for constipation. Docusate is a pill that softens stool and can be helpful. Senna is another pill, a stimulant laxative, and works by increasing bowel activity. Fiber and fluids, yes, absolutely continue.
