Why do my ears hurt so much when I try to swim to the bottom of the pool?

Maybe ETD: Maybe eustachian tube dysfunction - not being able to clear ears ("pop" them open) when diving. Divers need to clear your ears every 5-10 feet of diving to prevent ear pain and damage to ears. Could also be a hole in ear drum. Be careful that you do not dive if you notice drainage or blood from ear or have vertigo ("spinning") during or after diving.

See your MD or ENT: Ear pain can be caused by ear infections, both inner and outer as well as other problems. Another common cause of ear pain in my office is temporal mandibular joint dysfunction (tmj/tmd i.e. Jaw joint pain). If the problem is recurring and/or not responding to therapy, seek the care of a specialist. A knowledgable exam will determine the problem. Best wishes.

Why does my ears hurt when I put buds in?

Ear buds&ears?NEVER: One hting we were taught in medical school is to never put anything larger than your elbow inside your ear! to clean your ears you use commercially available ear drops or hydrogen peroxide. They don't hurt&are much safer. The hydrogen peroxide dissolves the wax, you leave it in for 5 minutes or so. Then use a wisp of tissue to dab it dry. Repeat weekly/biweekly depending on wax degree.
