They are sensitive: The ears are sensitive to begin with, so "bundling up" and using ear muffs etc. In the cold winter days is important. The inside of the ear is even more sensitive, and when cold air hits the exact position that makes it blow into the ear canal, it can irritate the nerves in the tympanic membrane (ear drum) and cause pain. This is one case where ear wax production would help. Best wishes.
