Back strain: This is consistent with an acute lumbosacral strain. The hand numbness would be unrelated and possibly a result of associated anxiety or hyperventilating. The strained area takes 7-10 days to resolve. Treatment consists of rest, cold applications for 48hours and thereafter intermittent heat. Liniment and,if you can take them,nsaids like Aleve (naproxen) or advil. Your physician can order muscle relaxant.
