GERD: The belching and substernal symptoms with shortness of breath are findings seen in many cases of reflex esophagitis and hiatal hernia. Inflammation of lower esophagus is frequently associated with shortness of breath due to substernal extension of the inflammation. Omeprazole is used to treat these symptoms of gastroesophageal reflux .
