Barrett's esophagus: Although the possibility of cancer is increased with Barrett's, the vast majority of patients with Barrett's esophagus never develop esophageal cancer. You can decrease your chances by keeping the reflux under good control. If on your screening endoscopies the pathology ever looks like it may be heading toward cancer, there are ways to do ablation of the Barrett's itself. Talk to your G.I. doc.
