A member asked:

Blood cultures done for swollen fingers/neck pain. 2 cultures drawn same site. results " growth of coagulase negative staph" dr. says contaminated? ?

Very well could be.: Coagulate negative staph can reside on the skin, so when a culture comes back with that finding one has to use judgment in deciding if the positive culture represents true infection or is just a skin contaminant. Because coat negative staph can be a pathogen, that is the cause of illness, one should not dismiss the finding out of hand.

Second opinion: Any thing is possible. If done by your family physician or specialist ask for another specimen to culture. If truly contaminated then procedure was not done with sterile technique.
