Do you mean phlegm?: Mucus producing tissues line the mouth, nose, sinuses, throat, lungs, GI and GU tract. Mucus acts as a sort of protective blanket preventing tissues from drying out.. Mucus also contains antibodies to fight bacteria, viruses. The color of the viscous substance changes ranging from clear to yellow green to black depending on enzyme from wbcs, pollens, pollution. Mucus was already in lungs.
