A member asked:

Can depression be caused psychologically? or is it just caused by a chemical imbalance? if caused by psychological what are some symptoms of it?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Depression: Oftentimes there is a very fine line that's often blurred by depression as an internal phenomenon via chemical imbalance, versus depression as psychological (as you put it) which I interpret as being aggravated by external factors. Both phenomena interact reciprocally with each other. Welcome to another variant of the time honored "chicken and egg" debate!
