See below: There are innumerable causes for renal calcification. These would include, among other causes: metabolic disorders, medication side effects on the kidney, renal stones and cancer....to name just a few. Most renal stones(calculi) are much smaller than 2 cm which suggests another cause in your case. Usually the diagnosis will be suggested by CT, MRI or Ultrasound. Discuss with your physician
