Visit your doctor: Narcotics such as hydrocodone or oxycodone, usually combined with acetaminophen are typically used in the setting of a fracture because anti-inflammatory medications can interrupt the process of fracture healing. Only your treating physician can determine the course of your medication and you should not seek narcotic pain medicines online.

Proper fracture care: ice, elevation, immobilization, splinting casting or wrapping ( if needed-depending upon the nature of the injury) ...deters pain and promotes healing. OTC NSAIDsin limited quantities ( always take lowest dose needed) typically do not hinder fracture healing. Best rx for pain is proper treatment!

See the doctor: Rice, ice , compression, and elevation help with an injury. Narcotics can help in the initial stages of an injury. Proper evaluation by a specialist is required.

THERE ISN'T ONE: Both narcotic and non-narcotic analgesics are available. Your treating physician is the one to decide what's best, based upon your specific problem. Sincerely, Dr. Latva
