Neurology consult: You may have a condition known as Occipital Neuralgia. Treatment is generally symptomatic and includes rest and massage. Local nerve blocks and injections of steroids directly into the affected area are sometimes used. You should see a neurologist to confirm the diagnosis. Relief from pain after an anesthetic nerve block is sued to confirm the diagnosis.
